Oil Change: How It’s Done

Lube Service at Tri Star Automotive

Changing engine oil routinely is one of the most important things you can do to keep your car healthy and running well. Depending on your driving habits and specific vehicle, you’ll likely need lube service about every 3,000 miles or 3 months. Why so often? Oil accumulates, contaminants, and breaks down over time, clogging up engine parts and potentially leading to serious problems. Changing it out protects the engine and its optimal performance, plus it’s quick and easy! Here’s what the process looks like:

  1. Get to Tri Star Automotive
  2. Our state-of-the-art facility is fully-equipped to easily change out engine oil with no hiccups or mistakes. Some car enthusiasts may prefer to change oil themselves. We recommend extreme caution to do-it-yourselfers because oil may be extremely hot. Plus, mistakes could cause serious damage.

  3. Prep
  4. First, we park and restrain the vehicle, ensuring the vehicle is turned off and in “Park” before lifting and restraining using jacks and wheel blocks. Next, we place the drain pan properly underneath the engine. Nobody wants hot oil spilled all over the ground.

  5. Drain the Oil
  6. Our certified technicians use the appropriate oil and replacement filters for your vehicle. We locate and remove the engine drain plug (not the transmission drain plug!) to release dirty oil.

  7. Replace Oil Filter
  8. Next, we’ll replace the oil filter using special tools and techniques. The filter must be prepped to create a seal and carefully screwed on tightly.

  9. Add New Oil
  10. Adding engine oil isn’t a guessing game. The proper amount for your specific vehicle can be found in the owner’s manual. We measure, test and re-measure to ensure oil levels are where they need to be.

  11. Dispose of Old Oil
  12. Engine oil must be carefully and correctly disposed of. We transfer it from the drain pan to sealed container. Our facility responsibly recycles used oil and filters.

The steps of an oil change are simple to an experienced professional. Let Tri Star Automotive take care of your routine service today!
